FCS 2022 jersey countdown: 78 – The best player who wears number 78 is UCA’s Jaylin Hendrix

Welcome to the FCS 2022 jersey countdown.

Ahead of Week 0 games on August 27, HERO Sports will name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on last season’s rosters.

The central page of the 99-0 countdown can be found here.

Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2021 rosters.

78: Jaylin Hendrix, OL (Sr.) – Central Arkansas

Hendrix had high expectations after signing with the Bears in 2018, and he certainly delivered. A three-star recruit from Everman, Texas, and ranked 201st offensive tackle in the nation by 247Sports, he immediately saw the field as a true freshman in 2018 with nine appearances.

He became a full-time starter in 2019, earning HERO Sports Sophomore All-American honors. Hendrix continued to progress to become a force on the o-line, earning first-team all-conference honors in the past two seasons (2020 Southland and 2021 ASUN).

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound athlete was also named a Third Team All-American by The Associated Press last fall. Hendrix was a big help in running back Darius Hale’s stellar season. Hale rushed for 1,015 yards and 17 touchdowns, finishing No. 2 in the Jerry Rice Award voting for the FCS’ top freshman.

Hendrix has shown versatility throughout his career, playing multiple positions on the offensive line at guard and tackle with most of his reps coming at right guard. He’ll close in on 50 career games as the season progresses and should add to his list of playoff accolades.
