(HACKETTSTOWN, NJ) – The Centenary Stage Company, a nonprofit professional theater company in residence on the Centenary University campus in Hackettstown, NJ, is now seeking applicants for the 2022-23 Arts Internship Program. Centenary Stage Company is looking to fill the internship immediately.

The Artistic Internship Program is designed to provide each intern with the opportunity to explore all facets of theater business, from administration to performance and production. The program is aimed at candidates who have completed their undergraduate education and are looking to bridge the gap between their academic career and the professional theater industry while providing young artists with a place to build their early career. The aim of the program is to give trainees a clear understanding of how the theater industry works at all levels by providing real-world experience in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, gaining experience in a variety of capacities using a wide range of skills. Interns will also work alongside and directly with industry professionals, both resident artists and nationally recognized professional guest artists, providing unique networking opportunities.

This is a paid internship with a monthly stipend. Trainees participating in the Young Audience Series Touring program will receive an additional stipend per performance, where applicable. No accommodation is provided. All candidates must be hired locally with the ability to travel. The internship is a one-year commitment from the start date. Flexible evening and weekend availability depending on the calendar of events required.

All interns, regardless of their particular area of ​​interest, will work closely with CSC staff and receive extensive training in day-to-day operations and business management, including assistance with marketing, development , fundraising, community and educational outreach, business management, patron relations, content creation, social media engagement, web development and maintenance, and all other administrative initiatives. Interns will be proficient with Theater Manager, the ticketing software widely used by performing arts organizations in North America, as well as various other software used by the organization, including but not limited to the Microsoft Office suite. complete and various Adobe programs, including Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Performance-oriented trainees will have the opportunity to audition for and, if chosen, star in major CSC productions. Although the internship does not guarantee performance roles in major CSC productions, it does promise performance opportunities for those interested. Performance-based interns can earn equity points through the Equity Membership Application (EMC) program if they participate in a primary CSC production operating under a contract with the Actors Equity Association (AEA). Additionally, interns will have the opportunity to perform as part of the CSC Young Audience Series touring program. Trainees participating in the CSC Young Audience Series Touring program will receive an additional stipend per performance.

Trainees focused on stage management and techniques will have the opportunity to work on main and touring productions. Interns with this focus will have the opportunity to work in production shops, rehearsal studios, backstage assignments, direct assistant, assistant stage manager, light and sound panel operations, as well as various other production responsibilities dictated by individual production needs. Stage Management and Technical Orientation interns will have the opportunity to work with resident production staff, alongside visiting professionals from lighting, set, sound, costume designers and with stage managers and actors.
